GCI Prepaid Plans for Alaska Residents

GCI is a phone company that services the state of Alaska and among other services, they offer prepaid cell phone plans. Their plans are no contract, no credit check plans at competitive prices. Whether you need just one line or more, GCI has a plan for you.

Currently (2022), GCI has unlimited prepaid data plans and plans with smaller data limits so you only pay for what you need. Before selecting a plan, please check the coverage map https://www.gci.com/mobile/coverage-map to make sure you live in an area where prepaid plans are available.

They have two Unlimited plans. The Peak Unlimited and Explore Unlimited as outlined below:

As with most prepaid cell plans, you get a discount if you choose the AutoPay option. So the monthly cost for the above plan is $60 per month with AutoPay and $70 Per month without autopay.

If you choose to add additional lines, the second line will cost $30 per month. Adding a third and fourth line to the above plan costs $20 per month per line. So if you need 4 lines and have signed up for AutoPay, the above plan would cost $130 per month or $35.50 per line per month.

The cost of the Explore Unlimited plan with AutoPay is $50 per month ($60 without autopay). The second line increases the monthly tab by $30. Adding a third and fourth line increases by $10 per month per line. This translates to $100 per month for four lines or $25 per month per line.

You should be aware that GCI’s unlimited mobile plans are available in certain areas of Alaska. Other areas are considered Extended Markets and they’re limited to 1GB of use per line per month. It’s important to find out where your location lies.

GCI's Single-Line Plans

If you don’t need multiple lines, you can choose a single-line plan. They range from 1GB up to 10GB and the plans range in price from $20 per month to $55 per month if you opt to use autopay.

Please note:For the 1GB Unlimited Alaska Talk & Text Plan, nationwide long distance is $0.20 per minute. Long distance is a call from AK to the Lower 49. Nationwide roaming voice is $0.35 per minute. International SMS texts are $0.25 each.

No matter which data plan you choose (except for unlimited) if you run out of data, you can always purchase additional data.

GCI Phone Choices

With GCI you have the option of purchasing a phone from https://www.gci.com/mobile them or bringing your own phone. If you bring your phone, you will need to have it unlocked before it can be used with GCI. GCI provides instructions on how to unlock phones for AT&T and Verizon customers.

Do not cancel service with your prior company until after you have activated service with GCI.

Discounted Phones and Phone Service

Because GCI participates in the Federal Lifeline and Affordable Connectivity Plan (ACP) Programs, they’re able to offer discounted phone service ($1 per month) and discounted internet service (up to $75 off of internet plans) to qualified households. These plans are offered to low-income households to help them get access to phone/internet services that would otherwise prove difficult to afford. Check out GCI’s Lifeline/ACP plans.
