Downloading Verizon Wireless Ringtones on a Prepaid Phone

Ringtones are a type of a status symbol. Phone customers try their best to get the latest, greatest, craziest ring tones. As a result, purchasing ringtones on a prepaid cell phone is quite a lucrative business for phone service providers.

The other day, my daughter voiced her opinion about having the standard ringtones that came along with her prepaid LG Cosmos Touch. Apparently the ringtones were just fine for the first few months, but now they’re old had and she must have the latest J Lo song as a ringtone and somebody else for text messages.

Downloading Ringtones

With Verizon prepaid it’s really simple to download ringtones from your phone, but you get a better flavor of the song availability list if you purchase the ringtones by signing into your Verizon Wireless account.

Verizon RingtonesIf you’re out and about and not near your computer, you can always navigate to the Music & Tones menu on your Verizon phone and keep making menu choices until you get to the actual ringtones you want. The confusing thing about this method is that once you get past the “Get New Ringtones” option, you have go select through “Get New Applications”  (wait for it to connect) then select “Ringtones.” You would think that at that point you could pick and choose your ringtone. Nope. You have to decide if you want ringtones from Sony Music Box, Univision Tonos or VZW Tones Deluxe.

At that point, there are too many decisions to make and not enough explanations. This is why purchasing ringtones online is much easier. By going through your Verizon Wireless account, you can easily browse around to pick and choose ringtones.

Word of Warning

Ringtones is a lucrative business (as mentioned above). Verizon’s ringtones are $2.99 (as of this writing in July of 2011). Verizon songs are $1.99. Don’t think you’re getting a good deal by selecting one of the $1.99 songs. The $1.99 songs will download to your computer and not to your phone. We know this because we made that mistake. Once you purchase a ringtone, the amount isVerizon Wireless Account deducted from your available account balance so make sure your balance is enough to cover your purchases and leave enough of a balance should you need to talk on the phone.

The Verizon Wireless online account attempts to be user friendly, but we ran into problems with it signing us out repeatedly. Even with those few mishaps, I believe purchasing ringtones online from your account is the better way to go (just my opinion).

As far as ringtones go, to make yourself stand out in the sea of latest and greatest ringtones, you should record your own. After recording your own ringtone  you’ll have a distinctive ringtone that will never be confused with anyone elses.
