Texting Donations from Prepaid Cell Phones

by Robbi on January 15, 2010

With the recent earthquake disaster in Haiti, many organizations have set up the ability to send donations via cell phone text messages. All you have to do is text a certain number and your preset donation amount will be sent to the organization.

For Example, the Red Cross has set up a relief donation text. If you send a text “Haiti” to  90999 and $10 will be donated. You will receive a text back asking you to confirm the donation.

Prepaid Cell Phones and Donations

The question comes up, “Can I send a text donation from a prepaid cell phone?” The answer is a resounding yes you can. Just make sure that you have adequate balance on your account to cover the donation.

Prepaid or Contract Cell Phones

Prepaid cell phones have come a long way. There’s not much that a prepaid cell phone can’t do that a contract phone can do. So, put more time on your phone and donate.

Visit the American Red Cross website to find out more about helping in the Haiti relief efforts.
